Proxy Voting

Should I bother to find a proxy?

I can't vote in the local elections only the European elections.
It's a Labour safe seat.

However I do want to 'Throw the bastards out!'

  2. Scotland is a single EU parliamentary region returning 6 MEPs on a proportional basis, from a single regional (national) list. As I understand the electoral maths there's almost no point voting Labour or SNP as they'll definitely get 2 seats each, with the Tories guaranteed 1 seat. But the final seat is up for grabs between Lib-Dems, Tories, Greens, UKIP and terrifyingly the evil BNP. So if you vote for anybody except Labour or SNP it will matter, if only by keeping the fascists out.

Isn't it strange though that all across Europe the electorate vote on national issues, rather than continental ones. The European Parliament does an important job but its elections are just an opinion poll on domestic politics. Even those of us who are into politics don't look at it on EU-wide basis.

I'd happily act as proxy for you (and would vote for who you want), but it might be easier for you to get your mum to if you're registered at her address.
