Full of it

Ah, flopping boat after boat last Wednesday actually did me some harm. Not only did I triple up in the first 10 mins of the game but I also thought I was invincible for the rest of the night. I ended up chipping and drawing away at my stack until I eventually busted. It was only after that that I started to concentrate and play again.

I have become really good at reading a few players hands at my regular game through a mix of tells and betting actions. Twice I induced big river bluffs which I could easily call and once convinced someone to check their trips on the flop which allowed me to draw to the nut straight on the turn for free. I only ended plus $50 bucks. I wish I'd left after the first 20 mins but I can to play and win and although the later of the night was a tough trip it allowed me to practice some abilities which in the end paid off. Role on next week.

  1. I'll try that again:

Okay mate I did my best, made a sterling effort and hung in there beyond the point at which the majority of people would throw up their hands in consternation and move on to Ozzy's blog... Eventually though, despite giving it my best, I was lost. What exactly does "to draw to the nut straight on the turn for free" mean? If you could translate this into English it would enhance my understanding of this post no end.

  2. "to draw to the nut straight on the turn for free"

Ok in poker a straight is 5 cards in a row. 6,7,8,9,10 or 10,J,Q,K,A.

The 'nuts' or 'nut' is the best possible hand in that situation.

Ergo the 'nut straight' is the best possible 5 cards in a row with the cards available.

A draw is when u are waiting (need) another card to complete your hand. So I had 3,4,5,6, so any 2 or any 7 would complete my straight (2,3,4,5,6 or ,3,4,5,6,7). So drawing is waiting for one card to complete your hand.

The turn is the next card after the flop. The flop is the first 3 communal cards dealt in Hold em poker, the 'turn' is the fourth and the 'river' is the last.

    Free equals free, no money.

So I convinced a guy by calling him 'unfriendly' and using my persona to not bet his 3 of kind and let me draw to complete my straight on the fourth card (turn) for free. My 5 cards were the best possible in a row. They were the 'nuts'. You have him ny the balls because he cant possibly beat you. Comprendy?
